What prospects does the UPS workers’ groundbreaking contract victory hold for labor’s power across the logistics industry and beyond?  What strategic advances are currently underway toward large scale organizing at Amazon?  Join the discussion to consider key lessons from the Teamsters’ recent organizing, and to better understand the changing landscape of the logistics industry and the global supply chain.  

Sean O'Brien, General President of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, will launch the event with a keynote address discussing the historic UPS contract win.  O’Brien’s keynote will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Samir Sonti, Assistant Professor at the CUNY School of Labor and Urban Studies, with Chris Smolinsky, Deputy Director of the Amazon Division, International Brotherhood of Teamsters; Jane McAlevey, Senior Policy Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley's Institute for Research on Labor and Employment and author of Rules to Win By: Power and Participation in Union Negotiations; and Steve Viscelli,  Associate Professor of Practice at the University of Pennsylvania and author of The Big Rig: Trucking and the Decline of the American Dream

Hear from workers across TNG and CWA, sharing current and past experiences with work stoppages and strikes–-including members from Fort Worth Star Telegram, Insider, and Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. We’ll also have a special guest from the United Auto Workers talking about what their union is doing to prepare for what could be the nation’s largest strike in decades. Plus, new CWA President Claude Cummings will join us for a keynote on building worker power. 
 
Through a series of interactive workshops and panels, you’ll learn :
  • What makes strong contract campaign 
  • How you and your coworkers can build a militant and responsive workforce that’s excited and ready to take action 
  • How to identify the decision-makers on the other side who can actually move things at the bargaining table
  • How to set the foundation for escalating actions leading up to a strike
  • The important and necessary nuts and bolts of prepping and actually running a strike.
