LOCAL BULLETIN - The New York Guild’s Representative Assembly (RA) named First Vice President Karen Rohan of Foreign Policy Association as its candidate for local chairperson to replace Ed Fannon, who left the Executive Committee when he retired from his job at Standard & Poor’s in December. Also nominated at the March 19 RA meeting was Nadia Taha of The New York Times to fill a vacancy on the 24-member Executive Committee.

LOCAL BULLETIN - Guild members and the Guild raised a combined $6980 to help CWA members(including Guild members) whose homes and property were lost or damaged by Hurricane Sandy. Also, the Guild is raising the maximum salary on which dues are assessed to $2150 per week from $2045, effective April 1.

LOCAL BULLETIN - The following slate of delegates and alternates to the upcoming 2013 Sector Conference of the Newspaper Guild and the 2013 Communications Workers of America Convention have been officially elected.

LOCAL BULLETIN - Guild members and the Guild have raised a combined $5160 so far to help CWA members (including Guild members) whose homes and property were lost or damaged by Hurricane Sandy. And we’re not done yet.

LOCAL BULLETIN - A full slate of delegates and alternates to the upcoming 2013 Sector Conference of the Newspaper Guild and the 2013 Communications Workers of America Convention were nominated by New York’s Representative Assembly on Tuesday night. The Sector Conference and Convention will be held consecutively in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania from April 20 to 24.

LOCAL BULLETIN - Normally, this is the time of year we would hold our holiday party. But for the of victims of Hurricane Sandy, including many in our own union family, this isn’t a normal year. So, there won't be a Guild holiday party this year. Instead, the Executive Committee voted to donate the money we would normally spend on a holiday party to the victims of Sandy. And we'd like you to help.

LOCAL BULLETIN - The 2012 Tom Keenan Award, won by the man who led the drive that brought Guild representation to the Jewish Forward's business employees, will highlight the Guild's semi-annual membership meeting on June 26. Also to be discussed are the Guild’s recent organizing of Kaplan English teachers, contract talks at The New York Times and Consumer Reports, the unprecedented broad salvo of discipline at Thomson Reuters and the plan to ship Standard & Poor’s work offshore.

LOCAL BULLETIN - Michael Dempsey of Consumers Union and Oscar Hernandez of El Diario La Prensa have been declared elected to a seat on the Executive Committee after no opposing petitions were filed for the vacant positions before the June 1 deadline. In addition, Anna Pierdiluca of Consumers Union was declared elected as Chairperson of the Representative Assembly (RA).

LOCAL BULLETIN - By a 2-1 margin, New York City-based teachers of English as a second language at the Washington Post Co.'s educational subsidiary, Kaplan Inc., voted for workplace representation by the Guild, becoming the company’s first U.S. employees to unionize. Kaplan management had run an intense anti-union campaign.
