Kaplan English teachers vote Guild, despite intense campaign

New York City-based teachers of English as a second language at the Washington Post Co.'s  educational subsidiary, Kaplan Inc., voted for workplace representation by the Guild, becoming the company’s first U.S. employees to unionize.

Several candidates elected to Executive Committee

Michael Dempsey of Consumers Union and Oscar Hernandez of El Diario La Prensa have been declared elected to a seat on the Executive Committee after no opposing petitions were filed for the vacant positions before the June 1 deadline.  In addition, Anna Pierdiluca of Consumers Union was declared elected as Chairperson of the Representative Assembly (RA).  Pierdiluca previously served as the RA Vice Chairperson.
