The New Republic Organizing Committee's Statement on Voluntary Recognition

“We are pleased to announce that management of The New Republic has voluntarily recognized our union, The NewsGuild of New York, as our collective bargaining representative. We have reached an agreement on a bargaining unit that we believe is appropriate.

Now that TNR’s management has agreed to our demand for representation, we all look forward to negotiating a contract that reflects our progressive values.

Our own experiences have reinforced our belief that a union is not only necessary at TNR, but will serve to strengthen the publication. When employees come together, they can begin a process of positive change that ensures they have a voice in their workplace.

We are excited to formally begin the collective bargaining process with management to create a fair and inclusive working environment at TNR.”
