NewsGuild of New York Statement on Meredith Corporation’s “Integration Plan”

03/22/2018

Yesterday, Meredith Corporation laid off 200 employees after its acquisition of Time Inc. and revealed its intention to further eliminate 1,000 jobs within the next ten months. Though none of the laid off employees were covered by the NewsGuild of New York, we’re still disappointed that any worker had to lose their job. Additionally, Tom Harty, president and CEO of Meredith, announced that management will explore the sale of publications TIME, Sports Illustrated, Money, and Fortune — all of which employ NewsGuild of New York members. The company promised to sell these publications to individuals or organizations that have “respect for editorial integrity and independence.” The union intends to hold Meredith to its word and look forward to working with management to ensure that our members are protected and that their voices are heard during this transition.
