NEW YORK – The Times Tech Guild – the union that includes Software Engineers, Product Managers, Data Analysts, Program Managers and Designers at The New York Times – will hold a protest rally and practice picket at noon, Wednesday, Oct. 30 outside The Times.

With strong support from unionized members of the NYT newsroom, Wirecutter, and CWA District One, Tech Guild members will issue a final warning to Times management.

“We are just days away from election day,” said Kathy Zhang, a Senior Analytics Manager at The New York Times and unit chair of the Tech Guild.  “Our bargaining committee has worked incredibly hard since we took our Sept.10 strike authorization vote to move negotiations forward. We know that bargaining requires compromise but so far, management has resisted doing so, especially on the key issues for us such as pay equity, remote-work protections and ‘just cause.’ Wednesday’s protest and practice picket is our opportunity to let The Times know, in the loudest way possible, that time is running out.”

The Times Tech Guild is a bargaining unit of The NewsGuild of New York, which represents nearly 6,000 media workers including two other units at The New York Times. The Tech Guild is also the largest union of tech workers with collective bargaining rights in the country.

Tech Guild has several pending unfair labor practice charges filed at the National Labor Relations Board, including the most recent over management interrogations of Tech members’ strike intentions, as well as on The Times’ actions on return to office, which is a mandatory subject of bargaining.

FOR THE MEDIA: The protest and practice picket will take place outside the 40th Street entrance near Eighth Ave. A rally with speakers from the Tech Guild as well as the NewsGuild of New York will kick off the event, followed by a practice picket.
