From The New Republic Union | Statement on New Editor, Editorial Operations

On Thursday, we were notified via email that TNR planned to relocate the “majority” of its editorial staffers from New York City to Washington D.C. Simultaneously, a New York Times article announcing this shift appeared. The union was not notified about this extraordinary plan potentially and significantly upending our members’ working conditions. While we are still in communication with management, it’s clear that the implications of this move have barely been thought out. This is unacceptable, particularly from an ostensibly progressive, pro-union publication. We look forward to discussing this decision with the company, ensuring  that we are an integral part of the process and protecting our members’ rights under our contract.
