Glickson, 'Members First' slate win Guild election

Challenger Grant Glickson has been elected president of The NewsGuild of New York, defeating incumbent Peter Szekely, according to votes tallied Friday at the American Arbitration Association office in lower Manhattan. 

All candidates on Glickson’s “Members First” slate were elected, including Vincent Mallozzi as secretary-treasurer and Lan Lecour as local chairperson. New officers and Executive Committee members begin their terms on Jan. 2, 2017.

Glickson is unit chair at The New York Times, the largest of 21 units that the New York Guild represents. Szekely, previously the local’s secretary-treasurer and a Reuters journalist, took over as president last year when Bill O’Meara retired for health reasons.

The vote was conducted by mail over the past three weeks. The vote counts for the local’s positions are as follows:
